Sonko's Idea That Revamped Uhuru's Dresscode

It is said that outfits speak volumes about a person, way before the individual opens his mouth to utter any remark.

Speaking of outfits, one thing Kenyans will remember the Jubilee coalition for is President Uhuru Kenyatta's sleek custom made campaign shirts.

What is unknown, however, is that Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had a part to play in Uhuru's look.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Carol Pulei, Uhuru's designer, narrated how she got the tender.

According to her, Sonko is the one who delivered the shirt to Uhuru, and after three months, she got the opportunity of working with the president.

"When we were doing this, it was just like a dummy, since it was campaign season.

"So my designer, Frank and I sat down and came up with the idea of making one for the president," began the smiley Carol.

She further revealed how together with her designer, they took a leap of faith and made the president a shirt just from approximation.

The shirt reached the President through Sonko who was a gubernatorial aspirant at that time.

"And since we had never met him, we concluded that his size was XL, just from TV shows. So we made one shirt for Uhuru.

"We gave the dummy to Sonko who then delivered it to the President as a gift from us," Pulei disclosed.

The shirt was worn three months after the delivery and two weeks later, Pulei was summoned to statehouse where she got the president's measurements thereafter earning the contract.

According to her, the shirts at that time ranged from Ksh 4500 to Ksh 100,000.

Ms. Pulei, later on, dressed the renowned Martin Kamotho popularly known as Githeri man and went as far as gifting him several Ksh 50,000 vouchers to last him till the next general election, which is 2022.
