Kivutha Kibwana's Stern Warning to Leaders Over Ruto

Makueni Governor, Kivutha Kibwana, on Thursday, sent a strong warning to leaders dismissing Deputy President William Ruto's chances in the 2022 General Elections.

Speaking in Turkana during the Fifth Annual Tobong'ulore Festival, which was attended by many leaders including the DP himself, Kibwana intimated that Ruto was a political heavyweight and that he would surprise a lot of people.

“Those who take you for granted and think that you do not matter are very wrong. Yes, they are very wrong and I can say that boldly because I am a constitutional political analyst and a politician for that matter. I know your capability,” he remarked.

The Makueni governor also revealed that he would take a stab at the presidency come 2022.

"There have been images of presidential aspirants which have been doing rounds but they forgot to add my photo because I already said I would be on the ballot,” Kibwana stated.

He further urged the DP to unite with other top leaders in the country for the sake of peace.

"I wish you could also sit with Raila. That will send a good message to the country," he pointed out.

The DP, on his part, stated that the era where youths were manipulated by politicians for their own political mileage was long gone.

He further urged young men and women to arise and take their rightful place in nation-building, urging them to shun petty politics.

“Your responsibility is not to blindly follow politicians or chant their funny political slogans, while you are getting nothing in return. You need to all wake up and pursue that what is important in your life; advance your careers and avoid divisive politics from politicians who are only after their own political gain,’’ Ruto commented.

Turkana Governor, Josphat Nanok, on the other hand, raised concerns over the country's capability of financing a referendum.

“I do not think there are funds to support the change of the constitution. My line of thought is that we make maximum use of the current constitution for the benefit of the country,” he stated.
