City lawyer, Ahmednasir Abdullahi, has found himself on the receiving end of attacks by netizens after he showered praises on Kenya’s maiden First Lady, Mama Ngina, upon running into her at an airport lounge.
Taking to Twitter, Abdullahi, also popularly known as the Grand Mullah, expressed how much he was impressed by Mama Ngina’s aura.
“Class is permanent...Graceful and simple. No airs. No bodyguards. Sitting with us in the lounge. First lady to our founding father, and mother to H.E Uhuru,” read part of the lawyer’s tweet.
“This lady is amazing...what a pleasant example on how to be yourself..and cool,” he continued.
Kenyans on Twitter tore into the advocate and accused him of displaying sycophancy on the social platform.
Mark Odeny suggested that the popular lawyer may not have been cognizant of the fact that Mama Ngina could have had bodyguards dressed as a civilian.
“Are you only two people in that lounge? If not, then one, two or even three of the others present could be her bodyguard(s),” he weighed in.
Others claimed that he was trying up warm up to President Uhuru Kenyatta, seeking a favour from the government.
There were users who jumped into Ahmednasir’s defence, attesting to his description of Mama Ngina.
“Met her once opposite Hilton, booking her own ticket a long time ago before the internet. She greeted me like a long lost friend in Kikuyu and the conversation went on for 5 mins. I had no clue who she was nor what she was saying, someone next to me told me to just respond Eh! Eh!” commented Caroline Kere.
“I met her today at the airport and we were just chatting. I didn’t know who she was until I saw GM’s (Ahmednasir) tweet,” added Fauz Khalid.
John Muse opined that "You should give Ahmednasir a break. We all get excited & fascinated when we meet people who are supposed to be powerful and superhuman in person and they tolerate us and act human. He is just star-struck."
