Ruto Reiterates Government's Commitment to Complete Promised Stadia

Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday, reiterated the government's commitment to complete the construction of several stadia across the country.

The DP was speaking during the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games at Kericho Green Stadium.

Ruto pledged that the national government would, within, the next one year deliver on its promise to Kenyans.

“I am informed by the Ministry of Sports that construction of all the stadia we had promised will be finalized within the next one year,” Ruto announced.

Following the creation of the sports and arts fund, the DP stated that the government would embark on the construction of the stadia and completion of those that had stalled.

“Since we have a predictable and reliable source of resources, sporting events and programmes will be funded to harness talents," he stated.

According to Ruto, the development of the sports venues would elevate the country’s standards to host key international competitions “with an eye on the Olympics, in the future.”

Ruto also mentioned that special attention would be paid to women’s sports, noting that the group had not been properly recognized.

The DP added that the national government would work with the 47 counties , establish sports academies in all the devolved units so as to identify and develop talents among the youth.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy's campaign manifesto pledged that five new modern stadiums would be constructed, none of which has been completed, almost eight years later.
