Massive Fire Breaks Out at Githurai Market

A huge inferno broke out at Githurai Market near Riflo Industries, in Nairobi, on Monday morning.

According to reports, the fire razed down furniture at stalls in the usually busy market.

At the time of this writing, firefighters and police officers had arrived at the scene and were attempting to contain the fire.

The cause of the inferno was yet to be established.

The fire reportedly destroyed property valued to be worth millions of shillings.

Witnesses revealed that there was a snarl-up along Thika Superhighway moments after the fire broke out. Motorists were advised to use an alternative route.

This comes just months after another huge fire razed down Gikomba market, Nairobi, in April.

It was believed that the early morning fire started at around 4am along line 42 near the bridge.

Witnesses, at the time, revealed that the fire gutted down stalls with shoes and apparels.

Traders woke up to huge losses as most of the stalls were reduced to ashes.

As 6am approached, emergency teams, including the Nairobi fire department, were at the scene trying to battle the flames.
