Matiang'i Sets New Conditions For Passport Applicants

The Immigration department that is under the Ministry of Interior, headed by CS Fred Matiang'i, on Thursday, set new conditions for passport applicants.

In a notice seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the department announced that passport applicants will be required to make appointments to collect passports.

"You will be required to book an appointment in the ecitizen portal specifying the date and time you wish to collect your passport," stated the notice.

They further clarified that passports will only be collected on the station one took his/her biometrics.

Matiang'i further outlined the requirements one will need to collect his or her passport.

They included, an appointment slip, an original ID and the expired/old passport for those making replacements.

This move, is in a bid to reduce the long queues at the immigration centres.

"With this booking system, you will not have to queue for hours to collect your passports," concluded the notice.

This comes after another public notice by the Department of Immigration services, on August 25, 2019, informing Kenyans of the introduction of an appointment system for those wishing to submit their e-passport applications.

This was for the purposes of taking biometrics at passport processing stations.

Those who had made earlier online applications were advised to revisit ecitizen and book appointments.

This comes after Matiang'i rolled out four new passport issuance centres in Nakuru, Kisii, Eldoret and Embu.

The new centres are expected to serve at least 1500 applicants each and will rationalise the issuance of the new-generation passports ahead of the March 31, 2020 deadline.
