MCA Rams Car Into DCI Headquarters' Fence

An MCA in Nyeri has landed in hot water after he rammed into the central region DCI headquarters fence.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2019, Konyu Ward MCA Eric Mwangi Karugu alias Wamumbi, was charged in court after getting into an accident.

Senior Resident Magistrate Mathias Okuche fined the legislator Ksh10,000 and in default serve two months in jail after he pleaded guilty for driving carelessly and damaging the fence.

The court was told that on Sunday, September 1, 2019, the MCA was driving a Toyota Wish along the Nyeri-Kamakwa road when he lost control of his vehicle.

He veered off the road while trying to negotiate a corner crashing into the DCI headquarters after damaging the fence and poles.

Wamumbi, who is also the County Assemblies Forum secretary-general, left the scene of the accident with slight injuries.

After the incident, police took him to the Outspan Hospital for treatment as his vehicle transferred to the traffic department for inspection.

Through his lawyer Wachira Wamahiu, the MCA pleaded with the court for leniency stating that this was his first offence and he was remorseful of the incident.

The lawyer also stated that the MCA was not under the influence of alcohol and the accident was slight self-involving where he just lost control of the motor vehicle.
