Disturbing Confessions of Men Drugged & Robbed in Bars

Nairobi's party scene has over the years witnessed an upsurge in cases of men waking up with no recollection of events, and a bank account teetering on the minimum balance.

This prompted a social media influencer, identified as Droid254, on Tuesday, September 3, to provide a platform for victims of the lethal syndicate of women who drug and steal from hapless revellers, to open up.

The response was overwhelming, with each victim's recollection of the ordeal revealing new ways used to administer the 'mchele' - slang for date rape drugs which causes one to pass out.

Most of the reported cases of spiking occurred in night clubs and bars, when the unsuspecting victims went to the washrooms and left their drinks unattended.

"In a club, woken up by strangers at 11am, 5miles away from my house, still high, with the car headlights on, ignition still on, with no phone and wallet intact inside, with a Ksh 30,000 withdrawal receipt at 4.18am," one of the victims posted.

There were also cases where men took strange women home, only to wake up to ransacked houses and missing ATM cards.

"One of my neighbours brought a strange girl home following a night out and he soon blacked out. She then went on and cleared out his apartment with help from some of the neighbours who thought she was his girlfriend. He woke up 2 days later," confessed a Twitter user.

Others recalled passing out after ingesting a strange ointment that some of the ladies applied on their breasts, claiming to remember nothing else thereafter.

There were hundreds and hundreds of tales from  victims, with political activist Boniface Mwangi calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to step in and hold club owners accountable for some of the cases

In some unfortunate incidents, victims have been found dead, hours after being drugged with GHB and Rohypnol, identified as the most commonly used drugs.

The most common effects include unconsciousness, inability to protect ones’ self, memory loss, nausea, vomiting, poor coordination and sleepiness.
