Citizen TV Journalist Rushes to DCI Over Death Threats

Citizen TV Reporter, Stephen Letoo, on Friday, September 6, stated that he was fearing for his life, after receiving several threatening messages.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the renowned reporter stated that he was headed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) branch in Narok, to report the case.

Letoo narrated that his coverage of the second phase of the controversial Mau evictions occasioned the death threats from unidentified disgruntled people interested in the matter.

"It is true, my life is in danger, my home was attacked in the village yesterday, now I'm fearing that they are coming for me," he disclosed.

He added that he was not taking the matter lightly but and was already taking serious precautions.

" I am going to the CID headquarters at 2 pm," he divulged.

Letoo's lawyer, Allan Liaram, told our newsdesk that there were several messages that had been sent to various groups, galvanising them against the reporter.

"There are several text messages which were forwarded to certain groups and are in circulation and we feel that his life is in danger, that is the reason we decided to have this matter investigated by the DCI," he noted.

It is not the first time a Citizen TV journalist has feared for their life owing to the stories they have covered.

In another incident that occurred on April 22, 2019, Emmanuel Cheboit, a Citizen TV correspondent went into hiding, after a source he interviewed on the disappearance of relief food was abducted.

Cheboit narrated that he had decided to go into hiding for fear of his life, adding that no one had threatened him but was taking precaution.

He stated that he had interviewed three people, all who had received threats from county bloggers who are alleged allies and lieutenants of county officials.
