Mariga's Random Texts to Kibra Voters That Could Land Him in Hot Soup

Renowned Footballer McDonald Mariga on Saturday, September 7, is reported to have caused a storm among Kibra residents.

This comes after text messages in his name were received urging them to vote for him in the upcoming Kibra by-elections.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, a Kibra resident, Hezekiah was one of the recipients of the message. He confirmed receiving the SMS on Saturday, September 7, at 10:09 pm.

The angered resident disclosed that he had never had any form of contact with the football star yet he got the message.

"I have never seen or interacted with him before, as well as anyone close to him. I do not understand how Mariga got my number and that of others, calling me by my name," he complained.

He further went ahead to disclose that, "someone somewhere is illegally sharing people's contacts."

Hezekiah further clarified that the text came in as a promotional message with the title 'MARIGA' similar to how mobile networks send theirs.

The text sent to our source read "Helo Hezekiah, naomba kukujulisha nitang'ang'ania kiti cha MP wa Kibra katika uchaguzi mdogo ujao. Naomba kura yako. Nakutakia wikendi njema."

Loosely translated as "Hello Hezekiah, I would like to inform you that I'll be vying for the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kibra in the upcoming by-election. I'm requesting for your vote. Have a lovely weekend."

The Kibra resident who just informed the police, further plans to alert the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) concerning the matter.

"I have just called 999 who have asked me to go to Central police station. I'm on way there," he stated.

He also shared the screenshot on his social media.

Mariga who is vying for the seat on a Jubilee party ticket will battle it out ODM's Imran Okoth, the late Ken Okoth's brother and ANC's Eliud OwaloKhamisi Butichi (Ford Kenya) and Ukweli Party's Editar Ochieng.
