How Wanted Spy Jane Mugo Cashed in on NYS Scandals

Private investigator Jane Mugo made headlines when the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) named her as a wanted fugitive after she failed to appear in court, to take a plea on the accusations of kidnapping an unidentified man, forcing him to pay Ksh 440,000 and later on storming his lawyer's office, while pretending to be a police officer.

The Daily Nation,on September 13, 2019, reported that investigations into the said spy exposed the relationships between the police and informers.

Jane claimed that she has helped authorities solve crimes in many instances, one of them being the NYS scandals that rocked the government.

She went on to allege that through her assistance, officers were able to trace part of the money that was stolen to the bank accounts of some of the suspects.

According to the spy, she was supposed to be paid Ksh1 million for her troubles, but only recieved Ksh 200,000.

In another instance in 2015, she claimed to have worked with some officers to recover Ksh50 million from rogue advocates.

The lawyers are said to have been paid more than Ksh250 million by a senior politician for land in Upper Hill, but did not remit the full amount to the family of a former prison boss who was selling the property.

Jane alleged that they were supposed to split Ksh5 million, which was 10% of the amount recovered.

The private investigator later learnt that a senior officer went back to the complainants and forced them to part with another Ksh10 million.

She blamed her current predicament on another case she says she is following up on, touching on senior government officials.

“How I wish that they called me to a police station and I refused to go, and then booked me so that they can be able to say I am a criminal and that I have refused to come.

“The people who called me are six police officers who told me that they are being threatened because of this case… if the government wants me, why do it on air? They only want three things, to spoil my name, want me to be viewed as a criminal and to intimidate me, because of the story that is going to air on a certain media house," she spoke on Citizen TV.
