Tables Turn in Ruto's Favour in Weston Land Battle

A travel agency owned by Paul Chirchir and Mathews Otieno has defended Deputy President William Ruto's piece of land, where Weston Hotel stands.

Business Daily reported that the agency, by the name Priority Limited, stated that the title deed presented to the DP had been acquired legally.

While filing documents in court, the travel agency indicated that the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority had no evidence to claim ownership of the land.

DP Ruto's Weston Hotel in Nairobi. A travel agency that sold the land to the DP claims it was obtained legally.

In a case filed in court by KCAA, the authority sought to reclaim the land, opposing a deal that had been set out for the hotel to compensate the National Land Commission.

Reports indicated that the travel firm denied allegations of a forged title deed, adding that KCAA was yet to table documents in court.

In an interview with BBC on February 12, 2019, the deputy president admitted that his hotel innocently bought the land from a party which may have obtained it illegitimately.

"The National Land Commission has made a finding that Weston was an innocent purchaser for value from somebody who got it illegally," the DP responded after Stephen Sackur, an interviewer inquired.

He added that he was doing everything in his power to make sure the illegalities were corrected.

Ruto intimated that he would be demanding payment from the organisation from which he purchased the land.

"Preparations have been made constitutionally to restore that land to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority by demanding that those who sold the land to us must pay,” Ruto stated.
