Raila's Final Words to Ida Before Crucial Surgery

Kenya's former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, looks back on June 28, 2010, as a life-changing day, as it was the day he went under the surgeon's knife in a bid to save him from inevitable doom.

Uncertain of the outcome of his impending head surgery, Raila called on the one person he could always count on to ease the ever-rising anxiety - his wife Ida Odinga, the Daily Nation reported.

“Before I was wheeled into theatre, I looked at my wife and told her if this was supposed to be my end, so be it, I am at peace with myself,” he told her.

After this brief conversation, the ODM Party leader confessed to only remember waking up in the Intensive Care Unit several hours later, before he was transferred to a private ward.

Dr Livingston Oluoch-Olunya, a neurosurgeon, was the man tasked with conducting the operation on the left side of Raila's head to relieve the built-up pressure.

The pressure may have been caused by the PM banging his head in his car a while back, the doctor communicated to the PM's team.

He had earlier on been misdiagnosed with malaria, which eventually forced him to take up to 6 painkillers every day.

After a successful surgery during which the public was kept apprised of his progress, Raila emphasised the need for leaders to avoid deceiving the public about the status of their health.

“There is no secrecy in sickness,” Raila announced, following his successful operation.
