Kibra Aspirants Sharply Clash on Live TV

Two Kibra parliamentary hopefuls, Eliud Owalo (ANC), and Ford Kenya's Khamisi Butichi, sharply clashed during a live show on NTV on Tuesday, September 17.

The two aspirants resorted to shaming each other on the platform that had brought together four candidates including; Narc Kenya’s Elijah Nyamwamu, and Hamida Mala from the United Green Movement.

The personal attacks started after Owalo was asked how he would help Kibra residents with travel logistics during the burial of their loved ones.

While replying to the question, Owalo stated that he had helped many families, including Butichi's family members.

"Engineer Butichi may not be aware but I have personally helped his family when they were stranded with his brother’s body, I hired a bus to transport the body home,” Owalo stated.

The statement did not augur well with his counterpart Butichi, who sharply interjected, noting that his sentiments were not true.

“No no no, you only transported ODM brigades. The bus you hired was for the ODM brigade, it was not for the body. I am part of the family, so I know," he remarked.

He added that his uncle had died working for Butichi, who had promised to cater for his children's needs but had failed to actualise his promise.

“Up to this day, he has not sent a single cent. I am the one who has been taking care of those kids. He has brought this issue on the table so we need to discuss it fully, you promised but that promise was not kept,” he lamented.

ODM's Imran Okoth and Jubilee's McDonald Mariga did not show up for the interview. The show host, Ken Mijungu later said that ODM had tried to interfere with the format of the show when requested to honour the invite.
