Uhuru Finally Endorses Mariga’s Kibra Candidature [PHOTOS]

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday, September 18, invited Jubilee Party’s kibra by-election candidate, McDonald Mariga, and finally endorsed him at State House.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the president wished the former soccer star, who was accompanied by the Party’s secretary-general, Raphael Tuju, success in the by-elections scheduled for November 7.

Rumours were awash that the president had not endorsed Mariga insinuating that he preferred to let Raila Odinga-led ODM field a candidate without their interruption.

Leaders who were present during the christening party included National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Jubilee Party Chief Whip, Benjamin Washiali among others.

Mariga has, in the past, made headlines after being named as a defendant in a number of lawsuits that he emerged victorious in.

On Monday, September 16, the former footballer got cleared to vie for the seat after an IEBC commissioner had disqualified him for not being a Kenyans registered voter.

Mariga had earlier filed a complaint with the IEBC's Dispute Resolution Committee following the decision by the returning officer to invalidate his candidacy since he was not in the commission's electronic voters' register, a decision Mariga described as improper.
