Why Sarah Wairimu Will Not Be Allowed at Husband's Graveside

Criminal lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, on Monday, September 23, stated that Tob Cohen's wife Sarah Wairimu, would be allowed to attend his funeral but not go past the graveside.

Ombeta, who is Cohen's sister's lawyer, noted that the Jewish culture did not allow women to attend such a ceremony.

"Jewish rites don’t allow women to be present. Only men attend such events. According to the traditions, Sarah can go but only watch from a distance,” the lawyer stated.

He also stated that Cohen's sister, Gabrielle Van Straten, had left the country because the Jewish culture could not allow her to attend the ceremony.

On Monday, September 23, Wairimu, had been allowed to attend her late husband's burial.

However, the burial, which was meant to take place at the Jewish Cemetery on Prof Wangari Mathai Road in Nairobi, was postponed.

It is reported that the ceremony did not take place because a total number of ten Jewish priests were required to preside over the ceremony but only eight priests were present to preside over the ceremony.

Cohen will now be laid to rest at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24.

Wairimu's lawyer, Philip Murgor, is expected to go back to court to seek a variation order allowing Wairimu to attend the ceremony on Tuesday.
