Meet Man Behind Killer School

Since the collapse of Precious Talent School in Nairobi that recently claimed the lives of 7 of its pupils injuring 64 others in the process, all eyes have been on the school's owner, Moses Wainaina

Since the incident, The Star disclosed that Wainaina has been roaming the deserted school refusing to be a fugitive.

On Wednesday, September 25, Wainaina shared his life journey that culminated in a death-trap of a school that cut short the lives of innocent children and shattering the hopes of many parents.

Speaking to The Star, Wainaina described how he had trouble going through school due to poor eyesight and lack of fees.

"I started educating myself when I was in class three and throughout, I was troubled by my eyesight but could not raise enough money to get glasses until I was in form two," Wainaina disclosed.

Wainaina who studied in Nakuru High School would later graduate with a Bachelors degree in commerce.

The embattled Wainaina and his wife who is the current school principal then set up the institution in 2009 amid financial struggles.

He then obtained a business license issued by the Nairobi County government still hung on his office wall. He, in fact, confirmed that the county had renewed the license last year.

According to Wainaina, it is the lack of funds that led to the reliance on makeshift structures.

His school also relied on untrained teachers including Wainaina who is an accountant by profession.

Testimonies by class 8 learners in the institution disclosed that Wainaina was the sole teacher for class eight.

He also relied on the help of a University of Nairobi student only identified as Daniel as a teaching assistant.

Wainaina's revelation comes after education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha on Monday, September 23, announced a 4-day closure.

"In the meantime, we have asked learners to stay at their homes over the next four days as we put in place adequate measures to ensure their safety of learning," he announced.

A spot check by The Star, however, showed that the daycare section of the institution was still in operation despite the closure of the institution by Education CS Magoha on Monday.
