Mother Found Wandering In National Park 9 Months After Going Missing

An emotional reunion of freely flowing tears was witnessed by police as mother and daughter hugged after being separated in the most bizarre way for close to a year.

Anisita Kageni, 48, went missing from Tharaka Nithi County on November 31, 2018, and efforts to trace her by friends and family had proved futile until September 26, 2019, when police confirmed that she was alive.

“I’m so happy. I got here (at Voi Police Station) very early in the morning when I was informed that my mother had been located at Tsavo West National Park and that she is alive,” Caroline Kageni, the daughter to the woman narrated.

Police suspect that the woman wandered from home and ended up at the park from where she could not make her way home.

However, the family maintains that such a thing could not have happened since Anisita was of sound mind when she left their home. How she could have walked to Tsavo National Park from Tharaka Nithi was incomprehensible.

Voi OCPD Barnsan Shary said residents of Voi made a report that a woman who appeared mentally troubled had been seen wandering around the park.

“My officers took the report seriously, went to the area and rescued her. That is when we made a phone call to her daughter,” Shary said.

In a similar case, a family in Njoro, Nakuru, in May 2019, joyfully celebrated the safe return of a woman who left the country 35 years ago.

70-year-old Cecilia Muthoni, left behind two teenage daughters in search of greener pastures in Tanzania for her daughter's sake.

She got a job in Tanzania and ended up in a marriage that produced a daughter.

After staying in Tanzania for more than fifty years she managed to write a letter to her family through a nearby primary school in Kenya.

The family and neighbors got together and pulled funds to enable her to get back home.

Muthoni came home upon her reunion to find that her firstborn Lucy Wanjiku who was 51 and a mother of four while the second born Julia Nyambura was 48 and a mother of five.
