On Friday, September 27, ODM leader Raila Odinga angered a section of mourners during the memorial service of eight pupils who died after a classroom collapsed at Precious Talent School on September 23.
The parents booed the former prime minister after he alleged that the tragedy may not have been an accident.
"Hii sio ajali, nikama ilikuwa imepangwa (That was not an accident, it was planned)," Raila suggested.
For a few seconds, the former Lang'ata MP could not say a word as the crowd shouted him down, forcing him to abandon that line of thought.
He then went on to state that such incidents should not happen in Kenya, adding that it had become a habit of politicians to cry crocodile tears every time such a tragedy occurred.
At this point, the crowd started murmuring again in discontent over the former premiers sentiments but also agreed with him.
He went ahead to donate Ksh3 million to the benefit of the families of the victims and pupils affected by the tragedy.
Raila was accompanied by Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, Senator Millicent Omanga, Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie and other leaders.
While addressing the crowd, Raila introduced Imran Okoth, the ODM candidate vying for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the coming by-election, to a round of applause from the crowd.
He conspicuously left out Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga in the introduction.
