Armed Gang Attacks Ngilu's Turf After Tribal Outburst

There was tension in Kitui on Sunday, September 29, after suspected bandits attacked a village in the eastern part of the county and killed a local businessman.

"I am extremely saddened and dismayed at the banditry attack at the Muthumulani junction which falls on the Engamba and Twambui road of Endau location, Kitui East in which Mr Kitonga Musembi, a businessman was killed. This madness has to stop," read an excerpt of the governor's formal statement.

Ngilu pleaded with the national and local security units to move with speed to investigate the matter and apprehend the perpetrators.

"Our upcoming meeting with CS for Interior Dr Fred Matiang’i and the country’s security apparatus is intended to further address this age-old conflict that has left our people maimed, displaced and dead by senseless and merciless attacks from these bandits," she revealed.

She went on to grieve with the bereaved family of the late businessman and vowed that she would not rest until justice was served.

"I wish to convey my utmost condolences to the family, friends of Mr Kitonga and indeed the people Kitui East for this unfortunate and painful loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace," Ngilu stated

NTV on their part claimed that two unidentified locals were abducted during the Sunday raid at Endau.

"Tension is high in Kitui County after suspected armed Somali bandits killed a local businessman and abducted two people," the Kamba station reported.

The latest incident comes barely days after the Kitui governor found herself in hot water following the emergence of a damning audio clip in which she appears to be inciting locals against Somali herders within her vast county.

In the clip which is claimed to have been recorded back in 2018, she is heard telling her residents that she will arm and train them to combat Somali herders. So far, eight Members of Parliament from Northern Kenya want Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu arrested for alleged incitement.
