Nyanza Pastor Defies Raila Over Ruto Church Donations

A Kisumu cleric has vowed to defy ODM leader Raila Odinga's advise against receiving cash donations from Deputy President William Ruto.

Father John Pesa of the Holy Ghost Coptic Church of Africa who was speaking on Sunday, September 29, further told off politicians who were criticising DP Ruto as he encouraged his colleagues to continue inviting the DP.

Pesa argued that the fundraisers were a healthy tool for development in all regions and that the church had no tools to determine which money was sourced from corrupt deals.

He then went ahead to state that the church would not be blackmailed to declining donations from philanthropic leaders.

“We support church fundraisers to lift the living standards of our people and we cannot distinguish dirty money from good ones unless the authorities issue caution," announced Father Pesa upon return from his three-week long prayer and fasting session.

He further alleged that no person could claim to be holy and be stingy at the same time.

“You cannot be stingy and claim to be holy. The DP has proved that he is generous and holy and unless the authorities endowed with resources prove him corrupt, nobody should tell us to reject his cash," he added.

As a word of advice, the priest requested the DP to make follow-ups and ensure that the money he donated was used for the intended purpose.

“Corruption is an embarrassment in the country, our country and leaders have lost respect due to graft and there is a need for prayers to end the vice,” he stated.

All this came after the ODM leader urged church leaders to avoid receiving money from politicians whose source could not be determined.

Odinga further lamented how many church leaders had deviated from their calling by accepting cash from politicians which he described as being corrupt.
