Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Wednesday, October 2, rubbed his constituents the wrong way after he showed up in Likoni to follow up of the ferry tragedy.
Governor Joho tried to speak to the crowd which had gathered but the people were having none of it and heckling him down.
The residents shouted incoherent words as they demanded the governor to explain his absence from the scene of the accident since it happened.
Joho had been conspicuously silent over the incident until the morning of October 2, when he claimed that Saturday's incident wasn't the first of its kind to happen.
The county head took to social media to state that he had met members of the family and they had discussed the way forward.
He further revealed that he had sent for experts from South Africa to come and help retrieve of the bodies of the drowned victims.
"I have sent for experts from South Africa to join efforts with multi-agency teams that are working round the clock to retrieve the bodies," Joho tweeted.
The Mombasa governor also called on Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) to enhance safety measures by ensuring that movable barriers were mounted to secure cars that could develop mechanical problems while being transported aboard the vessel.
Earlier in the day, the victim's family spokesperson claimed that the blame fell squarely on the governor's shoulders as he had shown the least concern.
