DCI Bust Syndicate With Bhang Worth Ksh12.6 Million [PHOTOS]

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, October 4, nabbed one suspect in possession of 42 bags of bhang in Kisauni, Mombasa County.

The suspect, identified as Vivian Auma, was arrested when DCI officers raided her home in Kiembeni Estate where they found 25,200 rolls of bhang.

According to detectives, the bhang was estimated to have a street value of Ksh12.6 million and was being stored at Auma's house, when the search was conducted.

Investigators reported that they had received a tip-off from residents that led them to find the bags piled in one of the rooms in the house.

The bhang had been rolled in khaki papers and stored in the large bags when the Multi-Agency team discovered them in the suspect's home.

Auma was taken into custody awaiting arraignment before the court on Monday, October 7, with DCI conducting further investigations into the bust.

This is not an isolated case since detectives have in the past cracked down and caught drug dealers in the country.

Daily Nation, on July 16, 2019, busted bhang worth Ksh5 million in Makongeni Estate, Nairobi. DCI officers confirmed that the drug haul had come from Migori and was heading to Garissa.

This came after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi had rubbished a push to legalize the drug.

Matiangi spoke at Pangani Girls and reiterated that despite various countries legalizing the drug, Kenya would not follow suit.

"Which government will accept those kinds of things? Don't tell me it's a business. This is a business leading to the death and destruction of our children. You cannot make money at the altar of destroying our young people," Matiangi stated.
