A police officer on Friday, October 4, lost his life in a horrifying road carnage hours to his mother-in-law's burial.
Reports by K24 Digital indicated that the officer, constable Fredrick Mutuku, was among the 13 who died in the unfortunate accident.
Mutuku who was stationed at Kisumu Central Police Station had asked for five days off duty to lay his kin to rest, in a burial that was set to take place on Saturday, October 5.
The law enforcer who was travelling from Kisumu towards Kericho along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway did not turn up on that Friday as expected.
“They got concerned and contacted his cousin, Joseph Mulatia, currently attached to Sega Police Patrol Base, Ugenya Sub-County to come and find out his whereabouts,” read the police report.
Mulatia's search for the deceased came to an end in Ahero Sub-county Hospital where he found Mutuku's body in the hospital's morgue.
Past reports by Kenya Redcross Society (KRCS), indicated that the accident that took place at Pala, 3km from Awasi, Kisumu county, occurred at 1:30.
