Pregnant Terror Suspect Attacks DCI With Damning Claims

A terror suspect arrested by the DCI on October 1, 2019, has sensationally claimed that she fears she might have lost her child after DCI officials allegedly tortured her in custody.

Daily Nation reported on Monday, October 7, that the suspect identified as Said Hussein Chirumu claimed that after her ordeal at the police station where she was held, she can no longer feel her baby kick.

“I was assaulted and handled with excessive force and I am now unable to feel the kicks from my unborn child, an issue which is of great concern and requires urgent medical attention,” she was quoted.

The publication further reported that the 'heavily pregnant' woman requested the court to allow her to seek medical attention so as to ascertain the fate of her unborn child.

"An expectant mother is required to visit clinics and manage the healthy growth of the unborn baby. Such services will be challenging to access when in detention," she pleded with the court.

She was also reported to have filed an affidavit in court denying her involvement with terrorism as claimed by the police officers after her arrest alongside six other suspects.

Chirumu was arrested on October 1 when officers from Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) and their counterparts from the elite Recce Squad raided a house in Likoni and killed three suspected Al-Shabaab members.

Other suspects arrested and arraigned were Khamisi Ganzala, Bakari Chimbonja, Athuman Nyae, Kassim Mbaruk, Mwachupa, Mreje Pauline Ayumba and Mary Mumbua.

They are all reported to have filed affidavits denying involvement in terror or criminal activities as the police officers had reported.

State Prosecutor Erik Masila, however, asked the court to grant the prosecution permission to hold the suspects for thirty more days as the police concluded their investigations, stating that they were a threat to the public.

“The intelligence report received showed the suspects were planning for a major attack within Mombasa central business district and were found in possession of assorted weapons of mass destruction,” he stated.
