Sonko Goes Head to Head With Majority Leader

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Tuesday, October 8, went all out against the county assembly's Majority Leader, Abdi Guyo, after falling out over the suspension of ministers.

Guyo reportedly claimed that the governor was not getting along well with the MCAs over his abrupt suspensions.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the governor, through his director of communications, however, justified his actions explaining that his powers included firing errant staff.

He further disclosed that Sonko resorted to suspension after a conclusive investigation uncovered rot at the affected CECs offices.

"When it comes to the firing of executives, it has not begun today. We cannot afford to lose several pupils [in reference to the Precious Talent school tragedy] who are the future leaders because of fraud and corruption in the systems.

"That one can't happen," the communications director stated.

Addressing the firing of CECs in relation to the collapsed Precious Talent School that left eight students dead, he explained that the move was justified since thorough investigations were carried out.

"The matter was reported in county offices but they never took any action. It was reported three months ago but nothing was done.

"Till the accident occurred, we established that the matter was reported three months ago and money exchanged hands. What were we to do, would you entertain corruption while people were dying?" he posed.

He also warned that he would not hesitate to take action when anything went amiss at the county headquarters.
