Gov Mutua Forced to Act After Arrest Orders

Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua on Tuesday, October 8, came out to defend himself after arrest orders were issued against him.

Speaking via his official twitter page, the governor was quick to point out that he was not in the country.

He blasted the Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee (PAIC) for soiling his name.

"I am currently out of the country and surprised that even after informing the Senate PAIC committee of the same a while back, they have again secretly met without notice to me or my Govt," read an excerpt of his statement.

"PAIC continues to perpetuate an agenda to show me in a bad light even though they know that I am away," he added.

The committee chaired by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, had earlier on extended a warrant of arrest against the embattled governor by two weeks after he failed to appear before the committee for the third time.

His presence was needed at the special hearing to respond to audit queries for the last three financial years.

Following his alleged snub, the committee had ordered Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to arrest and present the governor before the committee in the two weeks.

In his defence, the governor maintained that he had duly informed the senators of his current location, which made it impossible for him to appear before them.

"I have severally informed the Senate  PAIC committee that I have always been ready and willing to appear before them and do not need to be compelled to perform my civic duties as a law-abiding citizen," he stated.
