Jonathan Moi's Ksh30 Million Wealth Sets Stage for Family Battle

Jonathan Kipkemboi Moi, the eldest son of former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi and a man many knew as JT, died as one of the most accomplished local rally drivers.

At the time of his death, Jonathan had not prepared a will setting a platform for a court battle about his property.

Daily Nation on Friday, October 11, reported that he had an estate worth Ksh30 million, which is pretty modest, especially when compared to that of his father and his younger brothers Gideon and Philip.

Jonathan's wife Sylvia was mandated by the High Court to assume a temporary caretaker role over the late rally driver’s estate and ensure that his investments continued to receive and make payments owed to them.

Her mandate was, however, limited to paying bills and maintaining Jonathan’s estate until the court made a final decree on the administration application.

When JT died, a classic African cliche' would then occur; Lawrence Kipchumba, Gerald Kipkosgei and Geoffrey Kipkurui came out claiming to be Jonathan Moi’s children.

The three were allegedly born out of wedlock, and resided at the home of Moi’s late wife Lena in Kabimoi, Baringo County.

They divulged that they had his name on their birth certificates to prove that they were genuine sons of the former rally driver.

The siblings decried being sidelined from his burial plans back in April, claiming their efforts to reach other family members hit a dead end.

According to the brothers, Jonathan acknowledged them and had visited him in the hospital before he succumbed to cancer on April 20.

They also claimed he paid their college fees and catered for their personal effects.

The court documents under lock and key at the High Court did not mention any other individuals who have previously claimed to be Jonathan’s children.
