A flurry of praise flooded in from all and sundry after Eliud Kipchoge wrote history by being the first man to run a 42-kilometre race in less than 2 hours (1:59:40).
Among those who were quick to congratulate him were some of Kenya's top politicians, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto, the latter who had travelled to Vienna to watch the amazing feat.
Of all the politicians, however, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino carried the day with his declaration that after the record by Kipchoge, he too believed that he could become Kenya's president.
"Congratulations Eliud Kipchoge. You have made me confirm that I will be the future president of this Republic of Kenya," he wrote on social media.
This post drew a myriad of reactions from individuals, with many encouraging him that he indeed stood a chance to ascend to the top seat.
"It confirms that anyone can be whatever they solidly believe. Despite all odds," one user posted.
Others were quick to mention that for him to hold such high ambitions, he needed to revisit and review his political strategy which they dismissed as archaic.
"It takes discipline and humility to achieve such greatness. It is not about abusing people the way you do," one Facebook user advised.
Citizens from across the border also chimed in to give their two cents in line with the post.
"It has also confirmed me I will be (sic) the first Ugandan in history to become Kenya's president in future," a Ugandan citizen joked.
