Millicent Omanga Rains Insults on Mary Wambui After Appointment

Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga on Monday, October 14, complained after former Othaya MP Mary Wambui was appointed to head the National Employment Authority.

Taking to her social media pages, the senator accused Wambui of lacking the capability required for the position.

"You can't convince me that someone who is intellectually ungifted and has limited knowledge on the intricate challenges unemployed graduates are grappling with, will be in a position to craft strategies and policy formulations to help eradicate unemployment in this country," she protested.

Further, she questioned whether the former MP could relate to degree holders who were jobless.

"She is many things, rich, powerful, connected and all. There are many things she is capable of, but not this. It’s now clear that unemployment in Kenya is not taken seriously," the senator remarked.

Through a gazette notice, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Ukur Yattani, appointed Wambui to the position with immediate effect.

The former Othaya MP is expected to serve as the chair of NEA for a duration of three years.

Wambui will take over from Winnie Pertet, who served as chair from its inception till the end of her term.

NEA was established in April 2016, through an act of Parliament (the National Employment Authority Act 2016) that provided a legal framework for the operation.

The authority was created out of the then National Employment Bureau (NEB) which was one of the departments in the Ministry of East African Community, Labour and Social Protection.
