Hussein Mohamed in War of Words With Aukot on Citizen TV

Emotions flared on Citizen TV after former presidential aspirant, Ekuru Aukot, was cornered with hard-hitting questions.

Aukot, on the night of Tuesday, October 15, was involved in an exchange of words with news anchor, Hussein Mohamed, who tried to calm him down.

The Thirdway Alliance Party leader was asked a tough question relating to the death of Punguza Mizigo.

"I am asking you a simple question with due respect Dr Aukot, county assemblies are made up of people who were elected under specific parties.

"I am sorry to use this word. Why are you that naive to expect people who belong to political parties not to listen to what their parties are saying and vote for your bill?" Mohamed wondered.

Aukot, could not hold back his temper and went out guns blazing at the anchor.

"It is your question that is so naive to think that any Kenyan could not invoke the requisite articles of the constitution to protect the constitution. It is your naivety to think that Kenyans cannot begin a process to change the constitution.

"Do you know that I am a constitution builder? Stop pushing a very naive and narrow narrative that the only people who can make a decision about this country are those who are elected. I wish you had done your research very well," an angry Aukot lashed out.

Mohamed wondered why Aukot had not sought for the support of political parties to push the Punguza Mizigo Bill.

"I hope am not too harsh on you, but your question is very ignorant. Any Kenyan can come up with a proposition to defend the constitution. There is no requirement for you to go through a political party or individual. 1.2 million Kenyans believed in it.

"Then it is taken to the assemblies. What narrative are you trying to prove? Don't be tied up to narratives." Aukot defended as Mohamed suggested that the bill still needed approval by party leaders as their MCAs were to vote on it.

The news anchor went on to read a text from Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma, who claimed that the Thirdway Alliance Party leader's personality and anger were the cause of Punguza Mizigo's death.

"Reasons Punguza Mizigo will die is the attitude of its chief proponent Aukot. He comes off as an arrogant, abusive, know it all personality and picks a fight where there is no fight. Constitutional support requires pulling together and not the kind of arrogance witnessed in this show. The bill had a beautiful title and nothing good in it," Kaluma hit at Aukot.

Hussein's guest didn't agree that his bill had hit a dead end, as he blamed ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, as the masterminds of an alleged plan to squash it. He also lashed out at Kaluma, stating that he was being used by Odinga to shoot down the bill.

Thirdway Alliance Secretary-General, Frederick Okango, lashed out after the interview alleging that Aukot was not given a specific time.

"Aukot expressed himself vocally and defended our bill appropriately. I, however, feel he was denied enough time to explain the bill to Kenyans," Okango expressed his disappointments while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone.
