Four people are reported to have died on Thursday morning, October 17, after they were swept away by floodwaters following a heavy downpour.
According to a source who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, the four were killed after a flooded river swept away their pick-up truck in Kyaani, Matinyani Sub-county, Kitui West.
Nation reported that three bodies had been retrieved by 9.a.m. from the Mutendea river in the morning tragedy.
The sources further disclosed that the pick-up truck originally had six people on board but two managed to escape.
This came only two days after two people lost their lives in Wajir North on Tuesday, October 15.
A 13-year-old girl and an unnamed woman perished during flash floods in the area where five others were injured.
In a chilling video shared by NTV, a motorbike carrying two passengers is seen being swept away while on a bridge by a river that had broken its banks.
Transport in Wajir North and South was paralysed as property of unknown value was destroyed during the floods.
The Kenya Meteorological Department had October 11 warned of heavy rains accompanied by strong winds.
The department gave special warnings to residents in Wajir as well as Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Busia, Nakuru, Narok, Laikipia, Baringo, Nyeri, Murang'a, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Nairobi.
Residents of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Lamu, Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, Machakos, Makueni and Taita Taveta, Western parts of Turkana, Nothern parts of Marsabit and Samburu were also urged to be on the lookout.
"Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential flash floods. Floods may suddenly appear even in places where it has not rained heavily and can be deeper and faster than they look.
"Locals are advised to avoid driving through, or walking in, moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes," the department warned.
