Sakaja Takes Uhuru's CS Head-On Over Mary Wambui's Appointment

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has vowed to fight tooth and nail against the appointment of former Othaya MP Mary Wambui as the chair to the National Employment Authority.

The senator who is the US at the moment revealed that he had spoken to the appointee asking her to politely decline the post.

He further noted that he had also instructed his lawyers to file a petition to ensure the appointment was quashed.

"I have asked her (Mary Wambui) to politely decline this appointment. Further, I have instructed lawyers to file a petition to quash this appointment," the senator wrote on social media.

Sakaja who was the brains behind the formation of the authority in 2016 during his tenure as a nominated MP noted that the appointment failed to meet the requirement placed by his bill.

"There was a dream that informed the creation of the National Employment Authority. The appointment of Hon. Mary Wambui goes against the provisions of Section 10(2) of the NEA act.," he further stated.

The section that the senator noted to have been violated by Wambui's appointment stated that whoever was chosen for the chair of the authority needed to have at least seven years in Human Resource Management or its equivalent.

He further stated that the country had many other young people who met the qualification even to the level of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards that could have been appointed.

Wambui, 69, was chosen for the position by Labour CS Ukur Yatani on October 14, for a period of three years.

Her appointment did not go down well with Kenyans who took to social media and to vent at President Uhuru Kenyatta for 'ignoring the youth' contrary to his political promises during campaigns.
