Journalist Rants to Govt as National Team is Allegedly Held Hostage in South Africa

Radio Africa Sports presenter, Carol Radull, on October 23, blasted the government over a predicament that the national netball team was apparently facing in South Africa.

According to Radull, the team which had left on October 17, to boldly fly the Kenyan flag at the Africa Cup Championship in Cape Town, was at the time stranded at a lodging over unpaid bills.

She went on to claim that the team had actually been chased away from their booked hotel on arrival, with the management claiming that the Kenyan government hadn't made any payment.

"The girls went to the tournament venue, showered in a gym and played their first game later that day on empty stomachs," she narrated.

Radull, in a post on social media, narrated how a Kenyan residing in the South African city, upon learning of their desperate situation, bought a few loaves of bread and milk and ferried them to the team.

The post added how the Kenyan introduced them to a Cameroonian lady who ran a lodging and was willing to accommodate them on credit.

"The Cameroonian lady has been feeding them when she can afford to, at her own cost, but most of the time, the girls sleep hungry," read an excerpt from Radull's post.

Consequently, the team reportedly lost all its matches and was afterwards held at the lodge over the unpaid bills.

"The lodge owner will retain some of the passports until the bills are cleared," Radull claimed.

She went on to confess to having broken down in tears while talking to one of the girls who was stranded in South Africa.

"This is shameful and disgusting. These girls deserve better and sadly this isn't the first team facing such an issue. This is the shame of representing Kenya in sports," she lamented.

Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach the Ministry of Sports proved unsuccessful after calls went unanswered.
