DPP Haji Sends Soul-Crashing Message to Embattled Top Spy

Prosecutors under DPP Noordin Haji's guidance on Wednesday, October 23, informed embattled female spy Jane Mugo that only prison walls could assure her of her safety.

"The court can order that she be remanded at the Lang'ata women's prison where her security will be assured," the prosecution argued in court.

The Standard reported that she had filed an application seeking state protection claiming life was in danger.

Through her lawyers, Dunstan Omari and Brian Khaemba, Mugo claimed that she had been receiving death threats and was only alive by the mercies of God.

"Our client's life is in danger. She is afraid of the investigators in the case given the way they have been threatening her. We call for the court's protection as we intend to reveal the context of the threats," the lawyers told the court.

The former spy was released on a Ksh300,000 cash bail with an alternative of Ksh500,000 bond after denying threatening to kill two people

Mugo was accused of threatening to kill Deepa Shah Desmond at Kyuna close in Spring Valley on February 4 and Martin Mugusia in 2015.

Nairobi News reported that she had surrendered her gun and its certificate to the Kileleshwa Police Station.

Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku instructed that he matter be heard on November 6, 2019.
