Uhuru's Pressure on Ruto That Made Kenya Top World Rankings

Deputy President William Ruto disclosed how President Uhuru Kenyatta heaped massive pressure on him to spearhead a program that spurred Kenya to fly high over other countries in the world.

On Thursday, October 24, while speaking at the launch of the "Doing Business in Kenya 2020" report, Nairobi County, Ruto lauded government efforts that improved Kenya's global ranking in the economy.

According to Ruto, the Jubilee's leadership made a deliberate effort to position Kenya as Africa's manufacturing and technology hub.

"I remember hosting early meetings with instruction from my boss (Kenyatta) for the business environment reform team to see how we could change the environment for the future. This would place us in a catalytic position that will ensure investment flows from around the globe," Ruto narrated.

He further detailed how the meetings focused on tremendous collective efforts towards improving Kenya's politics and programmes, especially facilitation of conducive business environment that is the bedrock to creating job opportunities, investments and wealth.

Ruto also reiterated the Jubilee administration's plan to make Kenya the preferred gateway to Africa for domestic and foreign investors and a home for a driving army of talented innovative and performance-driven entrepreneurs.

"Kenya has twice emerged as the third most reformed or improved country in the world and also the most improved economy in Africa. We also joined the global top 10 most-improved economies for the first time in our history," Ruto enthusiastically stated.

However, for the DP, positioning on its own was not enough as strategic intent needed to be followed with action.

"That was not all. We also climbed 44 places over two years from position 136 in 2014 to 92 in 2016. We were one of the top 100 most improved economies in the world," the DP added.

He further stated that they were targeted at improving Kenya to join the top 50 most economically strong nations in the world.
