Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris is a vocal and strong woman, who is not shy of airing her political stand publicly.
Passaris, a wife and mother of two, has managed to keep her personal life away from public life.
She is married to Pius Ngugi and is a mother to Makenna Ngugi and 20-year-old son Lefteris Ngugi.
"My son doesn't like the media much. He is a very good looking boy, he is a bit like his father, a bit quiet," she once told Kenyans.co.ke.
In 2016, the woman representative went public about being in a polygamous marriage.
During an interview on KTN, she stated, “I am in a polygamous setup and it’s not something that I am proud of, neither is it something that I am ashamed of; you kinda learn to balance the two, this is the situation that I'm in and I’ve got to accept it.”
Her husband is a farmer and one of the biggest producers of processed macadamia nuts that are exported to foreign markets, especially Europe and North America.
Ngugi is the owner of the Kenya Nut Company, which is arguably East Africa's largest nut processing company and one of the world's largest exporters of cashew and macadamia, according to a 2017 Forbes publication.
He is also said to be the owner of Thika Coffee Mills which produces coffee.
Ngugi was once quoted saying, "The developed countries should open their market to African countries and let us compete on merit. Let there be a level playing field and instead of giving us aid, let's do business together."
He is also married to Josephine Wambui Ngugi and together they have four children Angeline, Mbugua, Louise, and Miki.
The 75-year-old had tried making wine from vines at his farm north of Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley in the 1990s.
