KTN News show host Tony Gachoka's message to President Uhuru Kenyatta on his 58th birthday on Saturday, October 26, 2019, has generated backlash from social media users.
Gachoka informed President Kenyatta that his stance on corruption had been futile and that it had set it him on a collision course with a section of leaders.
"President Uhuru, even as you mark this day, reflect on your legacy which is heavily dented by corruption in your ranks. DP Ruto and his cronies have mocked you, MPs have mocked you, the public has mocked you. In this fight make a difference and pay any price," his tweet read.
His sentiments triggered an avalanche of comments from social media users, some who agreed, but many dismissing him.
"What you are asking him to do is very difficult. He may have to pay the price of very close family and legacy ties. It is something he won’t do. Most people won’t anyway. Let the electorate suffer. They asked for it. Let him enjoy his birthday and final journey," a twitter user identified as Bread Winner remarked.
Another called Gachoka out for what he claimed was constant and vehement unjustified criticism of Deputy President William Ruto.
"Your hatred towards the DP has surpassed the sin limit. This is too much," he commented.
Other users begged to differ with Gachoka's point of view, opting to point fingers on the president instead.
"The failure of Jubilee starts with the president. Overborrowing, youth unemployment, heavy taxation (fuel products), corruption, poor governance...both the president and his deputy have failed Kenyans who voted for them," Duncan regretted.
Looking back at the promises made by the Jubilee government in the run-up to the 2017 General Election, other users expressed their disappointment with the state of affairs in the country.
"His government hasn't even completed five per cent of Jubilee's manifesto," a user stated.
"Stop massaging his ego. He has failed and must be told. Tell him to pack his stuff and leave. We are tired," a netizen spoke his mind.
