Ezekiel Mutua Responds to Viral Photo With Citizen TV's Swaleh Mdoe

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Friday, October 25, was among panelists who took part in a discussion on Citizen TV about traditional media versus digital media.

During the show, Mutua, was seated in front of news anchor Swaleh Mdoe.

The news anchor narrated the need for the media to observe rules and regulations when creating content.

"The media has rules and regulations and if the social influencers, the guys using the digital platforms would have regulated themselves, they wouldn't have needed Alfred Mutua and the Communication Authority. Just because they don't follow rules, that's why the government comes in," the news anchor explained.

On his part, Mutua agreed with Swale, citing that media houses should take personal initiative.

"And Swaleh is right because the absence of self-regulation invites government because ultimately, any space that is used by the public is regulated by the government.

"It is really a great day for me when I see the practitioners themselves talking sense about regulation and the need for us to guard that space," he concurred.

As soon as the show was over, a photo of Mdoe staring at the KFCB boss surfaced on the internet, and before long it became a meme.

"When the uncle who is contributing nothing during the ruracio (bride price) starts saying, 'Money is not a problem for us'," the meme read.

Taking to see social media platforms, the moral police questioned why people keep picking on him.

"I have seen this meme on social media. People should just leave me alone. Why always me?" he posed.
