Boda Boda Riders Set Pastor on Fire After Storming Altar

Boda Boda riders in Homa Bay County on Friday, October 25, pulled a pastor from the altar while he was conducting a funeral mass.

The Standard reported that the mob beat him senseless and the set him ablaze.

The riders accused pastor Samson Ongei of being responsible for numerous theft cases in the area.

Ongei was presiding over the burial ceremony of a female member of his church at Sero Village, Kalanya Kanyango Location in Ndhiwa sub-county when the goons struck.

According to witnesses, the service was going on well until the bloodthirsty boda boda operated rode into the compound chanting war songs.

"Mourners thought the mob was joining them in the sendoff, only to go straight to the podium and seize the pastor, cutting short the sermon," reported Philip, a witness who had attended the burial.

The mob insisted that the man of God was part of a gang that had recently robbed their colleague.

"He was forced to sit on a bike and taken to his house in Ojunge Village a few kilometres away. They locked him in and set the house ablaze," Phillip informed.

Kalanya Kanyango Chief Fredrick Onyango confirmed the incident, warning locals against mob justice.

“I urge residents to avoid taking the law in their hands. They should report crime suspects to security officials,” warned Onyango.

The body of the deceased was taken to Homa Bay County Hospital Mortuary.
