Siaya Senator, James Orengo, on Saturday, October 26, set his sights on Deputy President William Ruto, going on to tear into him over what he termed as underhanded tactics to derail the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
He was speaking during a fundraiser at Pap Karayola in support of Wang'apala Boys High School.
The senate minority leader bashed DP Ruto, claiming that he had been using his allies to spread dissent against President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga's BBI.
"This group is a group of rejectionist, these area reactionaries, these are people who want to take society backwards instead of forwards," Orengo stated.
His remarks came after Mt Kenya region Members of Parliament on Thursday, October 24, issued a rejection notice regarding the BBI, if it proposed a parliamentary system of government.
Speaking from the parliament building, the more than 30 legislators vowed to reject a proposal to either elect a Prime Minister or President in Parliament.
However, there were those who vowed to weigh the report on its content, key among them being Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, who affirmed that the BBI report would not be automatically rejected but rather weighed on its merits.
“If it has proposals favourable to us and good for Kenya, why should we reject it?” he posed.
Senator Orengo reiterated that it was illogical for DP Ruto's affiliates to start sending out statements tarnishing the report yet they hadn't even seen what the initiative was proposing.
"The building bridges initiative is going to succeed," he asserted.
