How Uhuru's Favourite DJ Captured His Heart After Meeting by Chance

Every adult who relishes music in this century has their favourite DJ who know how to get them out of the zone and as it turns out, Presidents do too.

For President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ignatius Ogeto, popularly known as Deejay Euphorique, has the keys to State House's events since being contacted by the head of state himself in 2017.

On April 15, 2019, Ogeto disclosed to The Standard that due to his disability, he is confined to a wheelchair, he has had to work twice as hard in an overcrowded industry managed by grandiose and entitled individuals.

First, he had to struggle to get admission into a deejaying school owing to his physical condition as many people told him off that he could not effectively operate a DJ's machine.

Ignatius Ogeto, also known as DJ Euphoric, is President Uhuru Kenyatta's favourite DJ since their chance meeting at State House in December 2017.

He, however, never gave up until one day he was accorded admission to Nairobi based Spin Trade Deeejay Academy, Hurlingham, run by Lee The Deejay and Wesley.

“I underwent training for three months before being certified as a professional deejay.

“What motivated me was the fact that the students at the academy were good to me. Upon arrival –they would make it a point to carry me off my wheelchair all the way to the first floor, something they did every morning and evening upon completion of the training,” he recounted.

His big break came in 2016 when he got invited to singer Daddy Owen's "Vanity" album launch as one of the performers. He did not have a turntable at the time.

The emcee of the event, Big Ted, who doubled as State House's director of the brand, marshalled a number of celebrities who raised money to buy him equipment.

Ted then invited Ogeto to State House in December 2017 for an event about orphans and that was the first time he met Uhuru who was amazed by his talent despite the disability.

Uhuru then promised to work with him from then henceforth.

“It was a dream come true for me. At the time I realized that despite the challenges I went through God was preparing me for greater heights,” recounted Ogeto.

Ogeto was, however, born a normal kid until he was attacked by a strange disease that paralysed his desk.

When he was 15 years old, he reported feeling pain in his legs and his attempts to relieve it by taking painkillers never helped. That was when he was taken to the hospital only to be referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.

"Like many concerned Kenyan parents, they did their best to ensure that I would be able to get back on my feet by taking me to various medical institutions, where I spent three months undergoing treatment in vain. I was diagnosed with chronic knee disease that only meant that I would be confined into a wheelchair for the rest of my life," he continued.

Today, Ogeto commands Ksh60,000 to Ksh120,000 every time he is invited to perform at an event.
