Raila's Right-hand Man Scolds Ruto Over Lavish Promises

On Monday, October 28, ODM communications director Philip Etale scolded Deputy President William Ruto over promises the DP made on Sunday, October 27, at Kibra.

While rallying Kibra residents to support McDonald Mariga in the November 7 Kibra mini-poll, the DP promised the slum dwellers a bag of goodies if they elected his candidate.

Affordable housing, new schools, and jobs to unemployed Kibra youths were among the cache of goodies promised to Kibra residents by Ruto.

“I am also aware that so many youths here have no jobs, if you elect Mariga on November 7, on November 8 we shall sit down with him so that by next year we have a training college here,” the DP promised.

Etale took a swipe at the DP over the promises made and referred to Ruto as a liar.

Through his social media handle, Etale vented, " Kenyans haven’t forgotten how you lied to them about the new stadia within a year of your second term during the 2017 election campaigns."

The communication director weighed in on the promises Ruto made in the run-up of the 2017 general elections.

"You used the same energy you used yesterday in Kibra to LIE TO THE NATION [sic]. Your speech in Kibra yesterday wasn’t anything new. You lied about making Kibra a City," he continued.

Etale directly confronted Ruto on remarks the DP made when he told Kibra residents, that the slum was his new home.

"If you feel that Kibra is your new home and that you are the man of the people, why did you have to tag heavily armed officers from the elite Recce Squad to provide security to you. Have you ever cared to ensure the safety of the people of Kibra using your office or only your safety is what matters?" Etale posed.

Etale went on further to pour water on his promise of affordable housing to the people of Kibra.

Etale blasted the DP when he affirmed that the upgrading of Kibra from a slum was a government project that was already on its second leg.

"You are the DP and you do not need rocket science to ask for the blueprint to have it implemented, it is somewhere within your reach," Etale lashed out.

Etale concluded his open rebuke of the DP when he accused Ruto of feigning affection for the people of Kibra.

"Calling the people of Kibra stone throwers was petty and quite demeaning. You want them to vote for your protégé and at the same time you are insulting them?" Etale posed.
