Raila's Brigade Escalates War With Aisha Jumwa as Team Pursues Punitive Measures

The woes on the trail of rebel ODM Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa continued to deepen on Monday, October 28 as her party hatched another plan to have her lose her parliamentary seat.

Barely two weeks after the MP was released from police custody where she was held in connection to a pre-poll fracas that escalated into a fatal shooting, the parliamentarian has another case to worry about.

ODM MCAs from Malindi County vowed to oust the embattled lawmaker from Parliament by orchestrating a recall from her constituents.

The Daily Nation on Monday reported that the MCAs had promised to lead locals in gathering signatures to recall Jumwa during a funeral on Saturday, October 26.

MPs Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Michael Kingi (Magarini),  Ken Chonga (Kilifi South) and Gertrude Mbeyu the Kilifi woman rep backed by close to 30 MCAs stated that they were going after Jumwa claiming the people of Malindi had lost confidence in. The legislators also singled out Jumwa for offending the party.

“Aisha viewed herself as a leader who had reached the top but her days are numbered. We shall tackle her ourselves in a by-election once she is recalled by constituents," Baya, the Kilifi North MP said.

ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was also in attendance, blasted the Judiciary for releasing the Malindi MP on bail.

In the remarks made during the burial of the late Ngumbao Jola who was shot dead in the chaos that saw Jumwa arrested, Odinga was seemingly escalating his war with the defiant MP who left his tutelage and swore allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto.

''Those behind the killings were arrested and taken to court, the prosecution asked for 21 days to hold the suspects in custody to prevent them from interfering with evidence but the Judiciary is still in a mess that requires investigations,'' Raila reiterated.

The move by the MCAs came almost five months after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) squashed the decision by ODM National Executive Committee to expel Jumwa from ODM.
