IMF Congratulates Uhuru for Fighting Corruption

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director for the African Department, Abebe Selassie on Monday, October 28, commended President Uhuru Kenyatta for spearheading the war against corruption, maintaining Kenya was on the right path.

During a courtesy call to State House, Abebe stated the IMF was satisfied with the stable economic growth that averaged between 5.5% and 6% as a result of the ongoing fiscal reforms that the Kenyan government was implementing to ensure macro-economic stability.

“Because of this, Kenya is a leading light in terms of economic reforms and growth in the region,” Abebe stated.

On his part, Uhuru thank the international body for providing technical support to the country adding that it played a key role in the stability of the country's economy.

He affirmed that his administration was committed to a stronger partnership with the IMF in the implementation of various projects.

“Our door is always open. I look forward to working closely with you,” Uhuru assured.

During the meeting, the President and Abebe discussed the relationship between Kenya and theIMF where they agreed on the need for closer cooperation.

The IMF director introduced Tobias Rasmussen, the new IMF Kenya Resident Representative. Rasmussen was replacing Jan Mikkelsen whose tenure ended on September 13.
