UoN Students Block Major Highway During Protests [VIDEO]

Students at the University of Nairobi (UoN) on Tuesday, October 29, triggered chaotic scenes along the busy University Way after they took to the streets in fiery demonstrations.

Motorists were forced to make abrupt u-turns as they approached the roundabout blocked by the rowdy students.

Initial reports indicate that the students staged the protest after one of their comrades was hit by an ambulance that was speeding on the wrong side of the road.

The unnamed student involved in the accident was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Barely a month ago, students from Kenyatta University blocked off the busy Thika Superhighway as they engaged anti-riot police in running battles.

The campus was closed indefinitely on October 8, following the protests.

This kick-started a wave of student protests across the country, with Pwani and Moi University experience the most violent protests.

Anti-riot officers positioned themselves just outside Central Police station located within UoN, and watched as the students aired their grievances on the streets.
