Moi's Family Issues Update on His Health

The family of retired President Daniel Moi on Tuesday, October 29, expressed displeasure with alarmist reports by some media outlets on the health of the former head of state.

A number of news publications reported that Moi had been readmitted at The Nairobi Hospital with lung problems that hampered his breathing.

However, Lee Njiru, the Moi family spokesperson came out and cleared the air over the matter.

"The family is displeased with the negative and alarmist reports being peddled by unfeeling individuals including some media outlets," Njiru stated.

He added that the former president was alert, conscious and under the care of a medical team

Various reports had earlier painted a picture that seemed to imply that Moi was in a critical condition

"The true position is that Mzee Moi is in hospital being attended to by a professional medical team, led by his personal physician David Silverstein," Njiru informed.

Through its spokesperson, the family asked the media not to run alarmist stories on Moi's health and advised members of the press to wait for official announcements from the family.

Njiru went ahead and expressed the family's gratitude towards Kenyans who sympathised with them.

"We are extremely thankful and grateful to all Kenyans and well-wishers from abroad for their prayers and speedy recovery messages," Njiru stated.
