ODM Threatens IEBC With New Demands Ahead of Kibra Poll

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party on Thursday, October 31 presented the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with new demands.

In a press release by the party's Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the commission was accused of deliberately refusing to release the official register of voters in Kibra Constituency for verification.

In that regard, Sifuna ordered the immediate release of the register, further threatening to storm IEBC offices if their demands were not met.

"We demand that the commission immediately provides us with a proper voter register, with all the details as required in law for verification and certification by the people, to avert disenfranchisement of any voter," he stated.

"That in the event they fail to do so within the next 24 hours we shall be marching to their offices to obtain the same, given the short time left to the election," the party threatened.

On October 24 of this month, the commission released an incomplete register. The list is reported to have lacked ID numbers which made it difficult for voters to verify their registration particulars.

Sifuna also asked IEBC to address the issue of missing names, transfer of voters from one polling station to another and the addition of new voters into the register.

ODM further pointed out that on October 12, Kibra community leaders released a report claiming that 19,200 names had been removed from the Kibra register, while 10,040 new names had been added to it.

The report also alleged that 3,812 people had been transferred from their polling stations without their knowledge.

The party also urged its supporters to visit the IEBC offices upon the release of the register, to verify and confirm that their names, polling stations in which they registered and their ID numbers are correct.
