Governor Narrates Miraculous Recovery From Blindness

Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti has made a strong comeback by flying back into the country from Germany where he underwent treatment for temporary blindness.

Daily Nation reported on Thursday, October 31, that Awiti started experiencing eye problems in 2018, after which he sought treatment in several hospitals abroad.

The publication reported that Awiti had been away since August 2019.

"I lost my sight but God has given it back to me. I thank everyone who prayed for me," he was quoted on his arrival.

His return, however, is reported to have aroused different sentiments from county leaders, some who stated that he was not in the right frame to operate.

They claimed that his frail health could put him at the mercy of other leaders in the county, including Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata who had been in charge when the governor was away.

Awiti however refused to be dragged into the politics, stating that it was bringing no value to the development of the county.

"I don't want to attack anyone with statements that will cause conflict. I know I have been criticized by many people but what I know is that whoever is criticized is the one who works," he stated.

Immediately after getting to the office, Awiti attended the swearing-in ceremony of Roads and Public Works CEC Samuel Nyaoke, where he reportedly told members of his Cabinet to toe the line or risk being dismissed.

The governor later inspected construction projects that he had left pending, to ensure that things were on course.

"I want to leave a good legacy in Homa Bay. I ask for your support in fulfilling the promises I made during my campaigns," he stated.
