A Kenyan Marathoner on Sunday, November 3 broke a six-year marathon record in China.
According to a Chinese publication, CGTN, Matthew Kisoria won the 2019 Beijing marathon, setting a new record.
Kisorio ran a full 42-kilometre marathon in a time of 2 hours 7minutes and 6 seconds, breaking the six-year-old course record of 2:07:16 set by Ethiopian Tadese Tola.
The 30-year-old broke away in the last 10 kilometres of the race and cut 10 seconds off the previous course record that was set in 2013.
According to China Plus News, the race began from Tian'anmen Square with about 30,000 runners ending in Beijing City's Celebration Square in the central area of Scenic Boulevard in the Beijing Olympic Park.
The champion was closely followed by two other Kenyans, Solomon Kirwa Yego and Emmanuel Rutto Naibei who finished after 2:09:45 and 2:10:15 respectively.
This comes three weeks after renowned marathoner Eliud Kipchoge shattered the INEOS Challenge on October 12 where he became the first human to run the 42km marathon in under 2 hours.
On Sunday, October 13 in Chicago when Brigid Kosgey broke a 16-year-old record in the women's marathon and Lawrence Cherono emerged victorious in the Chicago marathon.
